Our pub is ideally located near Taunton and Bridgwater. We are nestled under the shadow of the famous Burrow Mump and are many reasons to visit this part of Somerset.

Discover SOMERSET

This is the place where King Alfred famously burnt the cakes when he was hiding from the invading Danes, hence the pub’s name. The King Alfred is ideally located to see some of the fantastic attractions that our area has to offer. Many walkers enjoy the River Parrett Trail and we are the perfect stopping off point. Rest your weary legs and enjoy a long cool drink with us.

We are handily located for the RSPB’s Great Crane Project. This initiative is to bring back cranes to the wetland areas of Somerset following them being hunted out and losing their habitat to drainage some 400 years ago. Over the next five years, the project will focus on the reintroduction of cranes into the Somerset Levels and Moors – 60,000ha of floodplain in the South West of the UK, dominated by extensive mixed pastures, meadows and wetlands.
